Serena’s June Reveal

June has delivered an unusually strong group of openings across Europe and East Africa.

For me, the interest is not simply that they are new. It is how clearly each property answers a different kind of luxury brief: a private Florentine residence, a more composed base in Mykonos, a quieter edge of Mallorca, a polished coastal resort near Puerto Portals, a French arrival on Paraga Beach, a food-led Ibiza address and a wellness retreat on Zanzibar’s Paje Beach.

These are the openings I am watching closely, and where I see them fitting for clients planning travel now.

La Réserve Firenze brings one of Europe’s most refined hospitality names to a 15th-century palazzo on Via Santo Spirito, in the heart of Oltrarno.

With just six private apartments, this is the Florence stay for travellers who want the city to feel residential, considered and deeply personal. The scale is the point. It allows the experience to feel closer to a private home than a traditional hotel, with the service language of La Réserve behind it.

Oltrarno gives the property its character. The neighbourhood is known for artisan studios, galleries, wine bars and a slower local rhythm, while remaining within easy reach of the Pitti Palace, Ponte Vecchio and the city’s major collections.

For returning visitors to Florence, this is where I would begin. Private guiding in the morning, space held in the afternoon, a beautifully arranged dinner and enough room in the itinerary for the city to unfold naturally.

Four Seasons Mykonos is one of the most significant Greek island openings of the season.

Set above Kalo Livadi Bay, the resort gives clients access to Mykonos from a more controlled and comfortable base. The location is removed from the island’s busiest pockets, while still allowing easy access to Chora, beach clubs, restaurants and private boat days.

This is where the Four Seasons name matters. Mykonos can be highly rewarding when the details are handled well: arrival timing, transfers, beach reservations, restaurant access, yacht routing and room selection all shape the stay.

I see this working beautifully for clients who want Mykonos with ease around them. It also pairs well with Athens, a Cycladic island-hopping itinerary or a yacht charter through the Aegean.

Gran Hotel Margalida offers a very different expression of Mallorca.

Located in Banyalbufar on the island’s western coast, the property sits between mountain terraces and the Mediterranean. It is a setting with atmosphere, restraint and a strong sense of place.

This is the Mallorca for travellers who want landscape, privacy and time. The appeal is not built around the island’s more familiar beach club circuit. It sits in the drive, the view, the stone villages, the sea air and the feeling of being somewhere slightly removed.

I would place this for clients who know Mallorca already, or for those who want the Balearics with a more intimate tone. It could be paired with Deià, Valldemossa, a private boat day and a final Palma stay before departure.

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra brings a highly polished resort arrival to one of Mallorca’s most desirable coastal areas.

Set near Puerto Portals, the resort has direct access to secluded coves, Mediterranean views and a dining programme with notable names including Matsuhisa and Leña by Dani García.

This is a different Mallorca brief from Banyalbufar. Here, the appeal is a complete resort experience with strong service, wellness, dining and access to the island’s yachting culture.

I would consider it for clients who want a beautifully managed coastal base with easy movement between beach, boat, dining and Palma. It is also a strong option for families or couples who want the confidence of a major luxury brand in a destination where details matter.

Fouquet’s Mykonos brings French hospitality to Paraga Beach, following the brand’s addresses in Paris, New York, Courchevel and Saint-Barth.

The property’s appeal sits in its scale and identity. It feels more intimate than many of Mykonos’ established luxury resorts, with suites and villas designed around sea-facing terraces, selected private pools and direct access to the beach.

The arrival of ROKA adds immediate dining appeal, while the beach setting gives the property a natural social energy.

For clients drawn to Mykonos style, restaurants and beach access, Fouquet’s will be one to watch closely. I would be particularly careful with room category here, as the right terrace, outlook and pool arrangement will change the feel of the stay.

BLESS Ibiza The Site is the Ibiza opening for clients who want food, design and energy arranged around a luxury hotel base.

Located in Playa d’en Bossa within The Site Ibiza, the property brings together beach access, contemporary interiors, wellness and a strong culinary line-up, including COYA, Leña, Sublimotion and Tatel.

This is not the quietest version of Ibiza, and it should not be positioned that way. Its strength is lifestyle: restaurants, beach, music, movement and the ability to build a highly curated few days around the island’s best tables and experiences.

For the right client, this could form part of a larger Ibiza itinerary, perhaps balanced with a private villa, a north-island lunch, a boat day to Formentera and carefully arranged evenings.

ENVI Paje brings a new wellness-led option to Zanzibar’s east coast.

Set on Paje Beach, the property draws on natural materials, coastal architecture and African botanical wellness traditions. It gives Zanzibar a more considered place in the luxury conversation, particularly for travellers ending time in East Africa.

I would look at ENVI Paje for clients wanting rest after safari, or for those who want an Indian Ocean stay with wellness, space and local texture at the centre.

The planning around Zanzibar matters. Tide patterns, arrival timing, aircraft routing, luggage after safari and the pace of the final days should all be considered before recommending the stay.

The DBSL View

Opening season rewards good advice.

A new hotel can look exceptional from the outside, but the real value sits in knowing how it will suit the traveller. Which room category feels most private. Which arrival route makes sense. Which restaurant needs to be held early. Which property works best as a standalone stay, and which belongs inside a wider itinerary.

That is where DBSL comes in.

Serena personally curates each journey with the access, discretion and detail required at this level of travel. Flights, private transfers, yacht charters, heli connections, dining, wellness, family support and in-destination changes are handled with the same precision.
